A Word on Missing Middle Housing

Recall from our previous blogs that missing middle housing is a range of buildings with multiple units, all within a walkable neighborhood that’s near to already-existent community centers and amenities. Missing middle housing is also often constructed via what is termed an infill neighborhood, or working within the parameters of a given space that currently does not have any units built within the area.

These are vital points to reiterate because all of Alaula’s upcoming projects are both 100% workforce housing (only for current island residents who concurrently meet the income parameters as defined by the U.S. government) and also 100% infill/missing middle housing, utilizing creative and cutting-edge design to add density and style to already-existent neighborhoods.

And why is this so important to Maui Nui?

Because buyers (read: investors) from the mainland and across the world have driven prices for a single-family home or condo into the stratosphere, with four all-time records set this year alone in median sales price for single-family homes (and all over $1 million)—and this is supposed to show signs of the market ‘cooling’ to boot.

That’s why your support and well-wishes have been critical to help drive things forward, and to show the Maui County Council that all our fellow island kama’aina are in need of more workforce housing neighborhoods.

Your words matter, so make your voices heard and let the Council know you support Kuikahi Village—IMUA!

Kuikahi Village—our 100% workforce housing and infill neighborhood set to be created across fifteen acres in scenic Wailuku town—has moved on to the next step in the process towards receiving final approval from the Maui County Council.

The next hearing, set for 9/1, is vital towards the project coming to fruition to help our island kama’aina secure their futures here on the Valley Isle—and that’s where you come in!

Hale Kaiola Keeps Making Progress

Speaking of much-needed workforce housing within Maui County—we’re also proud to report that Alaula is currently on-track to complete construction of Hale Kaiola by the end of 2022 so that our proud new owners can move on in.  We’ve been vertical for a while, and our friends over at Goodfellows have almost completed laying the complete foundations to the neighborhood as well.

We are so excited to be on-track and on-time to complete these missing middle housing units to the lottery winners later this year, and can’t wait to help many more of our island kama’aina to gain the security and dignity of a home on the Valley Isle—so please don’t forget to sign the petition above to help Kuikahi Village over the finish line and keep the good times rolling!
