Welcome and E Komo Mai to the New Residents of Hale Kaiola

Congratulations to the Hale Kaiola participants who were selected during our randomized, live-streamed lottery this past Friday! We are honored to help our island kama’aina secure their ‘ohana’s future here on the Valley Isle—and when it comes to building affordable, eco-friendly, and top-quality housing on Maui, we’ve only just begun!

Much mahalo goes out to all our community partners who helped to make this possible. It truly takes a village, and Alaula has been extremely fortunate to enjoy the companionship and assistance of so many invested participants and groups from across the island to bring everything together. A special shout-out to Hawaiian Community Assets for helping to elevate and educate so many of our lottery participants—the work that you do to help secure housing for our citizens is truly amazing.

For the participants themselves, mahalo nui loa for being a part of the selection process. If your name was selected in the lottery —and regardless of if you were present or not for the livestream or not—real estate agents from Fine Island Properties and Tri-Isle Realty will be following up with you shortly to select your home, sign the official contracts, and arrange for your deposits.

For the lottery participants who were not selected, take heart—you’ll still have an opportunity to own a home in one of our upcoming 100% workforce housing projects: Hale Waipuilani (also in Kihei) and Kuikahi Village in Wailuku! Stay tuned for all the upcoming details, and if you’re not already subscribed to our newsletter, then now’s a great time to go ahead and do so.

As we’ve discussed in our previous blogs, Hale Kaiola will consist of 40 brand-new, eco-friendly homes currently under construction in Kihei, slated to be completed in the fall of 2022. Alaula will provide updates as things move along and will also be sure to keep you well-informed of all the breaking news on our two newest workforce developments as well.

Until next time—aloha, mahalo, and IMUA!

PS: Speaking of giving aloha to the ‘aina, Maui County has recently enacted new legislation banning the sale of sunscreens which contain ingredients known to be harmful to our ecosystem, set to take effect in October of this year. It’s an important step to help better educate and protect kama’aina and travelers alike as to the dangers non-mineral-based sunscreens pose to our coral reefs, animal populations, and the health of our environment.

To learn more about how you can malama ‘aina, head over to mauireefs.org to see how you can help to protect our coral reefs and make the switch to a more reef-friendly sunscreen.
