How Alaula is Utilizing Environmentally Conscious Designs for All Our Upcoming Projects

Aloha, welcome back! With multiple workforce housing projects currently in development, we thought today would be an excellent opportunity to share a bit around how Alaula is utilizing the very best in green building principles as we create new neighborhoods and housing opportunities for our island kama’aina – a true win-win proposition for the Valley Isle.

From a building materials standpoint, Alaula will be utilizing both commodities and construction techniques that are based on renewable resources and eco-friendly principles. All of our new residential developments are designed to be compliant with the best in energy conservation practices and low-impact development standards to keep the ‘aina healthy and happy, combining the very best in quality design with minimal environmental impact.

Alaula is proud to be utilizing:

  • Low-voltage LED lighting, which will provide crystal-clear illumination without becoming a drain on power and energy resources on the island

  • LP® TechShield® radiant barrier panels that can help reduce temperatures by up to 30 degrees – and LP SmartSiding gives our units a pleasant, welcoming aesthetic that will also make the exteriors naturally resilient to the elements and more efficient in keeping the interiors cool

  • Hot-Spot, high efficiency central AC to keep you and your ‘Ohana cool!

  • Low-flow toilets and water fixtures

  • Low-E, dual-glazed Suncoat Max® double-pane windows for clarity, looks, and maximal natural lighting

And many more. However, it’s not just the materials we utilize that help to make our neighborhoods truly green – after all, truly giving aloha to the ‘aina requires far more than that!

Indeed, our communities will also be incorporating a number of natural features into the neighborhood layout and design implementation itself, with stylish overhangs and Native Hawaiian plant and tree landscaping to provide a natural cooling and shading effect, not to mention an extremely pleasing and unique look to all its surroundings. What’s more, our layout will also make use of drought-tolerant garden landscaping to conserve our water usage while still making sure your new home and the surrounding areas look beautiful and inviting, and for many years yet to come.

Furthermore, our brand-new units will also incorporate catchment basins and rain-harvesting runoff gutters to maximize natural resources and green energy principles. Harvested rain can be utilized in several ways, from irrigation to cleaning, and also harkens back to a longstanding Hawaiian tradition of gratefully utilizing each and every element of the ‘aina’s abundance, with much mahalo. We will even make sure to lay out all the parking spots so that any emissions are pointed away from your brand-new unit, making sure that you and yours can breathe easy as you enjoy your new home.

Stay tuned for some exciting announcements around the progress of our developments, not to mention some updates around the upcoming housing lottery.
